MN7181-Introduction to Human Resource Management

"introduction to Human resource MANAGEMENT”

Human resource management is defined as a strategic and coherent approach to the management of an organization’s most valued assets – the people working there who individually and collectively contribute to the achievement of its objectives (Armstrong, 2006).

Human resource is the most valuable and unique asset of an organization. The successful management of an organization's human resources is a dynamic and challenging task, especially at a time when the world has become a global village. The inadequacy of talented resources and the growing expectations of the modern day worker have further increased the difficulty of the human resource function.

Following are the key activities in Human Resources Management
·         Employee selection
·         Induction of new employees
·         Training and development
·         Performance appraisal
·         Working practices
·         Job structure
·         Implementing disciplinary procedure
·         Motivating
·         Providing communication channels
·         Implementing safety policy
·         Planning for effects of changing on employees etc.

The Human Resource department acts the major role of performing the above activities. In the strict sense of the term, Human Resource department may be classified as non-productive, however the quality and efficiency of this department plays a significant role in the smooth running of the whole organization, since it looks after the most important resources- the human resource.

Main objective of human resource management is to acquire, develop and retain best talent in the organization (Davenport, 2013). Therefore human resource department is highly concerning upon planning and introducing different policies & practices where the set goals and objectives can be attained. Also it is needed to manage human resource in a methodical manner and value them accordingly in order to retain them for a long term in the organization.
